Sacked Catalan leader challenges EU to respect election outcome

OOSTKAMP, Belgium (Reuters) - Catalonia's former leader challenged Spain and the European Union to respect the result of Catalan regional elections in December, saying Madrid would have to end direct rule if separatists win.
